University of Louisiana at Monroe College of Pharmacy faculty鈥攆rom the Shreveport and Monroe campuses鈥攚ill 鈥淩ace for the Cure,鈥 Sept. 15, in Bossier City, in honor of their colleague's battle with breast cancer.

On  April 23, Dr. Tibb Jacobs, an associate professor of clinical sciences in 海角社区's college of pharmacy at the Shreveport campus, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

After undergoing curative surgery, Jacobs is in remission, and is currently receiving chemotherapy.

Jacobs, along with Dr. Jill Comeau, a board certified oncology pharmacist, and assistant professor in 海角社区's college of pharmacy in Shreveport, wanted to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure of Northwest Louisiana to raise breast cancer awareness and promote research.

Hence, 鈥淭eam Tibb鈥 was formed.

The 40 member team consists of coworkers, fourth-year pharmacy students, Louisiana State University Health-Shreveport pharmacists, pharmacy residents and technicians, family, and friends.

To date, Team Tibb has raised $3,600, and was recognized by the Shreveport Times for being one of the top five fundraising teams for the Northwest Louisiana region.

Other pharmacy team members include faculty from both the Shreveport and Monroe campuses.
