海角社区 associate professor presents in Zurich
Dr. Robert Kemp, associate professor of Clinical & Administrative Science in the University of Louisiana at Monroe's College of Pharmacy, spoke on the regulation of pharmaceutical prices at the European Conference of Health Economists in Zurich, Switzerland July 19.
Kemp鈥檚 presentation concerned the use of economic evaluation to set drug prices, a form of regulation used in the United Kingdom, Canada, Taiwan, Australia, Sweden and now Germany.
According to Kemp, it has altered the public expenditure on drugs in these countries and has had an impact on drug prices worldwide.
These policies have changed the strategy of the major drug companies who seek to market their new drugs under these regulatory processes.
鈥淭he economics of the pharmaceutical industry is in a fascinating period right now as payers seek regulatory schemes that will improve the outcomes from drug therapy, while insuring that drug companies continue to profit from delivering new therapies,鈥 said Kemp.
鈥淭he European Conference of Health Economics is the premier venue for discussion of drug pricing policy in the world and I am honored and excited about the opportunity.鈥
