KEDM鈥揊M drive continues to benefit musicians
KEDM-FM, a public radio station housed at 海角社区, continues to collect gently used musical instruments and music equipment to aid musicians affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. They will accept donations until July 24.
A special day for collecting instruments will be at Enoch鈥檚 Pub and Caf茅 on Saturday, July 15 from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Doyle Jeter of Enoch鈥檚 will prepare jambalaya and red beans and rice. Proceeds from the sale of the food will go to KEDM-FM. Area musicians will be performing throughout the day, including Kenny Bill Stinson and Delta Blue.
鈥淓veryone from school band students, churches, schools and professional musicians lost their instruments during the storm, so we thought this would be a great way to help out,鈥 KEDM Development Director Susan Allain said. 鈥淲e have received quite a few, but we know we can get more before the deadline. A lot of folks have a musical instrument just sitting in the closet of their home that isn鈥檛 used anymore. We would encourage everyone to come to Enoch鈥檚 this Saturday and donate those unused instruments to our drive.鈥
KEDM has partnered with Matt鈥檚 Music to collect as many instruments as possible, which will then be given to the Public Radio Development Exchange during its annual conference in New Orleans. The Exchange will donate these and other instruments brought by public radio stations nationwide to the Tipitina鈥檚 Foundation in New Orleans, a nonprofit organization working to rebuild the music community there.
Instruments may be donated during business hours at KEDM鈥檚 office, 225 Stubbs Hall on 海角社区鈥檚 campus.
