Representatives from the University of Louisiana at Monroe鈥檚 School of Education,
along with the dean of the College of Arts, Education, and Sciences, recently traveled
to Washington, D.C. for the 2014 Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation
(CAEP) Conference.
CAEP is the agency that will now confer the status of national accreditation upon
teacher preparation programs.
鈥淲e鈥檙e transitioning from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education
(NCATE), to CAEP, so there are many changes in store for us,鈥� said Dr. Shalanda Stanley,
School of Education assistant professor and 海角社区 CAEP coordinator. 鈥淲e have a new set
of standards that the School of Education must meet to be considered nationally accredited.鈥�
CAEP accreditation assures quality, and supports continuous improvement to strengthen
P-12 student learning. 海角社区鈥檚 School of Education is preparing for an upcoming CAEP
visit in 2016.
CAEP helps 海角社区 and the School of Education have the most up to date news regarding
the new accrediting body so as to better prepare 海角社区鈥檚 program directors for meeting
the new standards.
海角社区鈥� s representatives at the conference included Dr. Sandra Lemoine, dean of the
College of Arts, Education, and Sciences, Dr. Dorothy Schween, director of the School
of Education, Dr. Shalanda Stanley, School of Education assistant professor and CAEP
coordinator, and Dr. Brooke Keels, assessment and grants coordinator for the College
of Arts, Education, and Sciences.
海角社区鈥檚 School of Education has earned continuous accreditation since 1969, with programs
that have been approved by the Louisiana Department of Education since 1950.
